This hot Italian hatch comes with the same engine as the Alfa 156 GTA, which was launched in South Africa in 2003.

ABS and EBD are standard while it also comes with VDC to control dynamic stability on corners and it is complemented by MSR and ASR (the former moderates brake torque while changing down through the gears while the latter limits wheel slip during acceleration).
Design
On the outside, the Alfa 147 GTA reveals new features that reflect the changes to its chassis and mechanicals.
Alfa claims that these are also important stylistically - it make the vehicle look "broader, closer to the ground and more beefy while still ensuring instant recognisability".
On the outside the 147 GTA has broad wings that stand out at the front to accommodate the generous 17 inch wheels.
At the rear, the new version features a bigger bumper.
Inside there are a new three-spoked steering wheel, gear lever with leather gaiter and surrounds in Puma grey.
The sporty pedals include aluminium pedal covers and footrests with rubber inserts and ergonomic shapes.
The seats are sports-configured with leather upholstery: this comes in one shade (black) or as a two-tone combination.
The front seats come with a built-in head restraint and adjustable seat. They are divided by an armrest with a storage compartment. The rear seat offers the same sports configuration but all the comfort of a true five-seater.
The control panel also displays new features, with special gauges and a black background.
Pricing
The new Alfa 147 GTA will go on sale in South Africa from the 1st August 2004 at a price of R314 500. Customers can place their order at any Alfa Romeo dealership countrywide.
The 147 GTA has a 36-month/60-000km Maintenance Plan.Fiat Auto South Africa also offers owners of the Alfa 147 GTA a 36-month/100 000 km dealer warranty, three years on paintwork and five years on anti-perforation.
Services are required at 20 000 km intervals.
