VW has countered countless aftermarket styling imitations of its Scirocco with an in-house concept Studie R model.Shown at the Bologna motor show this week, the car is expected to provide the final styling cues for the range topping R20T model. Original aesthetic inspiration is drawn from the dramatic GT24 Scirocco endurance racer, which won its class as the Nurburgring 24-hour race earlier this year.If you’re going to show off an automotive styling exercise in Italy, it had better be decent, and with the revised front and rear bumper treatment (including rear diffuser), LED embedded lights, and cheeky rear roof spoiler, the Studie R looks the part. The bonnet, with its two surface air-intake ducts, adds the requisite amount of road-racer drama to the styling package. In a move of admirable diplomacy, the show car features red, white and green details - in honour of Italy - and a Bologna ‘08 badge. We love the contrast colour side mirrors, driver side in red, passenger side in green…S3 powerPower is from a slightly tuned version of the Audi S3 2.0 turbo engine, producing 195kW, and drive is distributed to all four wheels via a six-speed DSG gearbox. Lowered suspension, augmented by upgraded four-piston calliper brakes, ensure dynamics are equal to the challenge of the newfangled power output. The upgrades continue inside with black and white nappa leather, carbon fibre trim and red, white and green accents. With the automotive rumour mill going into overdrive towards the end of the year regarding the configuration and look of the range topping Scirocco, VW has shows its hand at what should ultimately constitute a top of the range, R20T badged model.
