Ford is flexing some serious muscle with the new Shelby GT500KR.
This Mustang special is set to take the muscle car crown. 'KR' stands for 'King of the Road', and this hotty is being produced in celebration of the fortieth anniversary of the 1968 Shelby Cobra GT500KR.
It was unveiled at last week's New York Motor Show.
Ford says it is the most powerful Mustang to date and the Detroit carmaker will only build 1 000 units of the car.
Under the hood lurks a 5.4-liter supercharged V8 which packs out about 400kW of muscle.
The show car features Shelby-designed 20-inch forged and polished aluminium wheels with custom centre caps. However, in production guise the KRs will get an 18-inch version of the design.
The lower front fascia houses a pair of functional brake ducts that effectively cool the 14-inch vented Brembo front brakes.
Furthermore the side stripes are similar to the original KR; even the font used for the 'GT500KR' is lifted from the original '68.
The classic LeMans-style striping also adds to this bad-boy's muscular aura.
