Honda has given its ageing S2000 sports car a serious boost. A lighter and stiffer version of the iconic roadster, the CR, has been unveiled at the recent New York Motor Show.
The track-worthy S2000 CR is powered by a 2.2-liter DOHC four-cylinder engine that delivers 175kW at 7 800 r/min. It is mated to a six-speed manual transmission.
Under the skin you will also find a front and rear double-wishbone suspension, electric power steering and a torque-sensing limited-slip differential.
Unlike the conventional S2000 the CR come with an aluminum hardtop replaces. According to Honda this means a weight saving of about 40kg.
The S2000 CR also gets a full-body aerodynamic package that reduces lift through large front and rear spoilers.
Chassis features include a quicker steering ratio, Bridgestone Potenza RE070 tires, a wider rear tire size, firmer springs and dampers, larger stabiliser bars and a new wheel design in a dark gray color.
