Opel has at last unveiled a sedan derivative of the Astra. Since Opel replaced the Astra range in 2004 there was no sedan model in the line-up. Traditionally the Astra sedan's main rival is the VW Jetta.
Meet the new Opel Astra sedan
The new Astra sedan makes its world premiere at the Istanbul Motor Show in November.
It is the fifth model in the Astra range alongside the five-door hatch, station wagon, three-door GTC and cabrio-coupé TwinTop variants.
The Astra sedan will be produced in Gliwice, Poland.
GM South Africa spokesperson Tim Hendon told Wheels24 that the Astra sedan is on the carmaker's "wish list" but that no final decision about the car has been taken yet.
The new model features a range of two petrol and two diesel engines.
