The Lexus CT 200h will have a fresh showing at the Paris auto show in October and could be heading for South Africa, too.
Lexus CT 200h hybrid for SA?
Said to be the first small luxury car with a hybrid powertrain, the CT 200h uses the latest Lexus Hybrid Drive technology to produce virtually no NOx or particulates. CO2 emissions are said to vary from 89 to 96g/km, based on the European country in which you happen to find yourself.
CT 200h drivers may choose between Dynamic and Relaxing “driving moods” to set the car’s chassis response with four modes – Normal, Eco, EV and Sport – setting the hybrid unit’s response.
To make the CT 200h more engaging, Lexus engineers have (much like the Honda CR-Z team) given the car a lower centre of gravity and a rigid shell. A new double wishbone rear suspension and a lateral performance damper also help high-speed stability and ride comfort.
The hybrid hatch will be shown at the Paris show before being introduced in the UK.
Here’s what Lexus SA had to say about the possibility of launching the CT 200h in South Africa: “The CT200h is on the Lexus wish list for SA introduction. Nothing confirmed and there's lots of work to be done to bring it to market.
“They’re working very hard on it but, should it come to SA, it won’t be before the second half of 2011.”
