PREMIUM PUG: Like the quirky appeal of a French luxury car? You’ll love the new Peugeot 508…
Peugeot South Africa will display two of its new 508 large sedans at the 2011 Johannesburg auto show in October as a preview to the local launch of this already highly acclaimed model which will happen in November.

The Peugeot 508 was shown to the public for the first time at the Paris auto show in 2010 as the replacement for both the 407 and 607 models. It's based on the “5” concept car shown by Peugeot in March 2010 at the Geneva auto show and shares most of its technical details with sister-company Citroën's C5 sedan.

BELFORT LION'S NEW SEDAN

The new 508 is 4.79m bumper-to-bumper - making it around 12mm more substantial than a 407, yet 13mm shorter than the 607. Its exterior design is dominated by radically swept-back headlights and a pronounced shoulder line running along the car’s flanks.

The Peugeot 508 introduces the brand's new look which has evolved from the stylistic codes first unveiled on the SR1 concept car.

It remains unclear which engine derivatives will be available in South Africa.

In Europe a range of turbocharged petrol and diesel engines powers the 508, with the range-topping GT using a 2.2-litre turbodiesel good for 149kW/458Nm. There's a hybrid configuration on offer in Europe that drives all four wheels, a combustion engine servicing the front axle and an electric motor the rear wheels.
