Alfa Romeo is celebrating the 60th anniversary of its Disco Volante, the "flying saucer," by co-operating with Italian coachbuilder Carrozzeria Touring Superleggara in creating a modern version unveiled as a concept at the 2012 Geneva auto show.
James Bond fans will also remember the name as that of the bad guys' boat in the movie 'Thunderball'.
The modern concept has the same ground-hugging design cues of the 1952 version but otherwise looks nothing like it and is powered by a 4.7 V8 driving through a six-speed auto gearbox and based on the chassis from an Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione.
Announced as a concept model, it remains unclear whether the car will be produced in a limited edition or how much one might cost.
