The upcoming Polo GTI's design will be inspired by that of the Polo Cup model with which it will share most of its exterior styling cues.

This means that the Polo GTI will be quite an aggressive looking vehicle featuring sporty bumpers, bigger wheels and a more aggressive appearance than the standard Polo.

Originally it was expected that VW will launch the Polo at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month but now it seems as if VW is only to unveil it at the Tokyo Motor Show in October.

European sales will start early in 2006 and according to VW South Africa the Polo GTI is under serious consideration for local introduction. However, this will probably only happen late in 2006.

Under the performance Polo's bonnet will be VW's tried and trusted 110 kW 1.8-litre turbocharged engine.

We expect that the Polo GTI will rocket from 0-100 km/h in less than eight seconds, while its top speed will be about 215 km/h.
