The future of Toyota's 4X4 line-up looks promising, if one considers its new Urban Cruiser SUV.
On display at the Geneva show, the new model adds to the company's 4X4 line-up although it is firmly pitched at the "urban all-road" market.
Designed to be an aspirational urban SUV to fill the gap left by the three-door RAV4 (which was discontinued with the introduction of the current model), Urban Cruiser is compact and practical with 4X4 capabilities.
It certainly looks rugged enough, with a bulky bumper and bulging wheel arches. The show car, however is fitted with street-smart five-spoke alloy wheels and a bespoke Ice Blue paint job.
The five-door SUV is just under four metres long and is said to offer enough room for five occupants to travel in comfort.
This new Toyota will be marketed as an "environmentally responsible" SUV aimed at the person who would like to own an SUV, but also demands low fuel consumption and low emissions.
The production model is being shown at the Geneva Motor Show and goes on sale across Europe from early next year.
Toyota SA has confirmed that this SUV will not be coming to South Africa.
