Scorching new Mazda3 MPS
Mazda’s second generation kamikaze MPS hot hatch will be show at the Geneva motor show.
A desperately underrated and indecently fast car, Mazda’s hatchback MPS was always a bit too anonymous for its own good. Especially since it featured a turbocharged 2.3l engine majoring on 190kW, supported by 350Nm of torque.
The second generation version will address this by sporting a massive bonnet cut-out scoop and ornate rear spoiler.
Whereas the current car is nearly indistinguishable from any other Mazda3 hatch, the new one will finally have aesthetic drama commensurate to its performance potential. Gauging from the press-release images the new Mazda3 MPS is everything the current Impreza should have been in terms of styling.
Expect slight increases in power and torque from the direct-injection 2.3l turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Power will still be to the front wheels exclusively.
