Featuring a bolder, sportier look and a dramatically upgraded interior, Lexus's latest RX SUV range has been shown at the 2012 Geneva show. It goes on sale in South Africa by mid-2012.

An upgraded Lexus RX SUV range is at the 2012 Geneva auto show with a bolder, sportier look and a dramatically upgraded cabin - and it’ll be here sooner than you think...

The RX gets a redesigned exterior that includes the new Lexus face (chromed surrounds flanked by new high-intensity or diode headlights) first seen on the all-new GS luxury sedan shown at the 2011 Johannesburg international auto show, a bigger selection of technology, revised instruments and new body and cabin colour scheme.

While local fans can expect the regular RX350 and RX450h models to continue, “even more (are) planned” for South Africa, Toyota SA’s Leo Kok said. “The RX will be made available to the dealer network at the end of the second quarter of 2012."

In addition to the existing ECO and EV driving modes, the RX 450h hybrid has a new Sport driving mode for faster responses and greater driver thrills.

The F Sport variant may feature among the new models, destined for South Africa. These models feature bolder exterior styling, smoked 19” alloy rims, F Sport badges and mesh grille inserts.

PLUSH CONFINES: The Lexus RX's cabin has been significantly overhauled, with new colours and upholstery finishes.

F Sport cabins also receive black-and-grey leather accents, front bucket seats and a special F Sport steering wheel.

The sportier look is complemented by a re-engineered handling package where the suspension has been tuned and performance dampers employed especially to deal with more athletic activities.

All RX models come with an updated, second-generation Lexus Remote Touch system to manage on-board systems.

The entire RX range also benefits from a more comfortable steering wheel inspired by the one used in the Lexus LFA which features wheel-mounted paddle shifts and other controls for the audio, telephone and other functions.

The iPod, USB and power sockets have been repositioned higher in the centre console for easier use and the stowage compartment has been redesigned to accommodate larger objects.
