Hot new Focus to target GTI
Ford is aiming the Focus ST at performance hatchbacks such as the Golf GTI, Astra OPC and the Megane Sport.
The heart of this hot hatch is a five-cylinder 2.5-litre turbo engine, which Ford sourced from the Volvo S40 T5, and it is equipped with a six-speed manual gearbox.
This turbocharged unit kicks out 162 kW while torque is a whopping 320 Nm. According to Ford the ST will dash from 0-100 km/h in 6.8 seconds and the car's top speed is 241 km/h.
The Focus ST looks the sporty part too and it comes with 18-inch five-spoke cast aluminium wheels and the upper grille of the car is taller and narrower than that of core Focus models.
Both upper and lower grilles feature a graphite mesh, while foglamp openings are trimmed in brushed aluminium.
The Focus ST also sports a more purposeful tailgate spoiler, which extends beyond the width of the tailgate to just above the high-mounted tail lamps of the Focus.
Wheels24 reported earlier this year that Ford could bring the Focus ST here in 2006.
