Toyota to show hybrid Auris

2009-09-04 07:25
Toyota's going green. The Japanese manufacturer will showcase a full hybrid version of its Auris hatchback alongside a plug-in hybrid Prius at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show.

That's right; Toyota's King of Green, the Prius, will be shown as a plug-in hybrid concept. Expanding on the Prius' hybrid capabilities, the concept presents the possibility of pure electric operation of short-range day-to-day driving.

150 units will be leased to selected fleet customers in a European field trial from early 2010, the manufacturer said.

The introduction of hybrid technology into the mainstream Auris model is, according to Toyota, the first step in the roll-out of Hybrid Synergy Drive across the Toyota model range.

Other big news is that the all-new Land Cruiser, which is less green but no less anticipated, will also be introduced at Frankfurt.
