MONSTER SUV: Jeep's new Grand Cherokee SRT8 is capable of rocketing from 0 - 100km/h in 4.8 seconds.

Jeep's new flagship Grand Cherokee will receive a power boost in the form of the new SRT8 model when it makes it global debut at the 2011 Frankfurt auto show.

The new model has an all-new 6.4-litre V8 engine capable of 350kW/630Nm of torque, 37kW/61Nm more than the outgoing 6.1-litre V8..

The SRT8, designed and built using the US automaker's Street Racing Technology, can accelerate to 100km/h in 4.8sec and has a top speed of 250km/h yet Jeep says its fuel consumption is down by 13% to give the SUV a cruise range of more than 700km.

The SRT8 also claims improved and refined ride, courtesy of  torsion rigidity being improved by 146% compared to the previous model.

RACE-INSPIRED DESIGN

Jeep engineers have improved on-road handling, with the Grand Cherokee SRT8 getting a new active damping suspension managed by the new Jeep Selec-Trac® system. The system allows drivers to manually choose between five modes for specific driving conditions.

The shell has been lowered by 30mm, diode multi-function daytime lights added and SRT features added - among them bonnet-mounted black heat extractors. At the rear, Jeep has added a spoiler, air diffuser and a dual-sport exhaust system with 10cm-diameter tail pipes.

The race-inspired interior has carbon-fibre accents, paddle-shifts and new SRT-styled Nappa leather and suede seats.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 will go on sale globally in 2012
