The XR2 will be based on the company's revises Fiesta range, which is due to be unveiled at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show.
The new look Fiesta will feature changes to its front and rear design to bring its styling in line with that of the new Focus.
Its interior will also receive a major upgrade with an all-new fascia design and improvement in quality levels.
When the RS2 goes on sale it will have a modified version of the ST's 2-litre engine and it will kick out 133kW.
This will enable the XR2 to blitz from standstill to 100 km/h in less than seven seconds, which could make it one of the most desirable small hot hatches.
