Die hard Opel fans must be rubbing their hands in glee with first details being made available of the next-generation Astra.
First glimpse: Next Opel Astra
Teaser images have been released too, even though the official unveiling is only expected in 2009.
The fourth-generation Astra will, according to Opel, be heavily influenced by the design and technology of the recently launched flagship Insignia.
The new hatchback will have a brand-new chassis for better handling, while a range of new engines will cut down on fuel consumption.
Also expect more practical features inspired by systems such as Corsa’s FlexFix integrated carrier.
New too will be the innovative Front Camera System debuted on Insignia that combines a lane departure warning system with traffic sign recognition.
Astra will also be equipped with Adaptive Front Lighting carried over from Insignia that adapts to road and driving conditions using nine light beams.
The current Astra was at for forefront of Opel's new design when it was launched in 2004, but the manufacturer, with the new model, hopes to "take a big step forward in both technical substance and emotional styling."
All-new Astra is expected to be revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2009.
