Meet the much anticipated Volvo XC60... But this smaller sibling to Volvo's popular XC90 SUV is still in concept guise and will be unveiled at the Detroit Motor Show in January.

However, the concept car is the best clue yet to what the production model will look like when it goes on sale in 2009.
The vehicle will fall into what Volvo calls the "Small Premium Utility" segment meaning that the XC60 will compete against small luxury SUVs such as the Land Rover Freelander II and BMW X3.
Volvo says that the production XC60 will be one of the first models equipped with its new City Safe active safety system that helps the driver avoid or minimize damage from low-speed rear-impact accidents.
Volvo hopes that the XC60 will attract buyers that have an active, urban lifestyle.
