Pride of place on Toyota's Detroit show stand is dedicated to this pint-sized FT-CH Concept.
Toyota reveals Yaris hybrid concept
Styled at Toyota's European Design and Development centre in Nice, France, the FT-CH (with CH standing for "compact hybrid") is about the same size as the Yaris hatchback.
Though shorter than the Prius, FT-CH is almost as wide, but also has a lower mass and is said to be more fuel efficient than Toyota's hybrid poster child.
The company expects the production version to appeal to younger, less affluent buyers in another step in Toyota's quest to offer a wider range of hybrid models.
Production plug-in hybrids and battery electric vehicles, and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles are expected to be introduced by the manufacturer in global markets from 2012.
