Wheels24 reader Henk Meyer spotted the new Colt on an auto carrier on the road between Orkney and Klerksdorp.
The new Colt is based on the new L200 pickup which was just unveiled in Europe. Recently Mitsubishi SA spokesperson Shirle Greig told Wheels24 that the new model will go on sale here in the first quarter of 2007.
Like the current model it will be available in three body types: single, club and double cab.
Its radical design will ensure that the Colt stands out in its segment where it will rival the Toyota Hilux, Isuzu KB and Nissan Navara.
Passengers will also benefit from L200's architecture with car-like accommodation for the rear seat and unique features such as a retractable rear electric window.
The 4x4 models shares its "Super Select" four-wheel-drive system with that of the Pajero.
Although there is no official info about the South African Colt line-up, the European models come with a range of new engines.
There is for example a powerful new 2.5-litre diesel engine with a power output of 100 kW at 4 000 r/min and torque is 314 Nm at 2 000 r/min.
The new Colt bakkie, or L200/Triton as it is called in other markets, has a radical design.
