Mitsubishi Motors' striking Concept RA makes its debut at January's Detroit Motor Show.
The coupe is powered by a new 2.2-litre four-cylinder 16-valve DOHC unit with Mitsubishi's MIVEC continuously variable valve timing control.
Fitted with piezoelectric common rail direct injection, the engine has a lower compression ratio and a variable diffuser/variable geometry turbocharger. Output from this engine is 150 kW and 420 Nm.
To comply with US emissions regulations, the engine uses a new catalytic converter system and Mitsubishi promises the new turbodiesel will deliver exciting performance with high fuel efficiency.
The coupe is fitted with Super All Wheel Control, that incorporates active steering and active damping control, and the twin-clutch transmission seen on the next Lancer Evolution.
The concept also uses an aluminium space frame body structure and a bonnet cover, fenders and outer panels constructed from high impact-resistance and recyclable plastic resin to reduce weight and improve crashworthiness.
