Saab reckons there's still life in its 9-5, evidenced by the promised release of a limited Griffin Edition at the upcoming Detroit show.
Highlighting the manufacturer's aircraft heritage, the 9-5 Griffin Edition celebrates the Gripen's (or Griffin in Swedish) role as the first of a new generation of combat aircraft developed by Saab Aircraft in Sweden.
Available in sedan or SportCombi wagon models, all versions of the special 9-5 are fitted with Saab's 194-kW 2.3-litre four-cylinder engine mated with five-speed manual or automatic transmissions.
Exterior styling borrows from the recently updated 9-3 and uses matte chrome for the front grille and the headlamp surrounds.
The interior is said to be awash with detail ranging from aircraft-inspired leather sport seats and high-gloss interior trim to a rear parking assist system, plus heated outside mirrors that are not only power-adjustable and foldable, but also auto-dimming.
According to the manufacturer, the only options are metallic paint, ventilated seats and a navigation system.
