New teaser: Volvo's Detroit début
It seems Volvo, too, is practising the "slow teaser-release" with the reveal of its S60 concept, due for release at the Detroit show.
About a month ago, we were fed an image of the very interesting Orrefors Crystal floating stack that will be featured in the concept car. Now it’s an image of the actual car, albeit with extremely dense shading, to make it two.
However, looking past the shadows does give some indication what the all-new sedan will look like when it is introduced in 2010.
Although it follows the proven Volvo formula with the jutting shoulder line, the new concept sedan's silhouette looks a lot more coupe-like. Volvo's design director Steve Mattin says the S60 concept signals the manufacturer's "dramatic new approach" to styling. We'd prefer more lighting before judging that...
And while Volvo has previously said that the concept's crystal hangdown will not be incorporated in the production model, the company will not rule out the use of the material in small quantities on later models.
Until then, the innovative crystal floating stack with "invisible" light sources will be in the concept S60 sedan that will be shown at the Detroit Motor Show in January.
