Is to get drop-top sibling

Lexus will launch a concept version of the IS convertible at the 2006 Detroit Motor Show.

Insiders say that it could feature a retractable hard-top, which will pitch the car against coupe-cabriolets such as the new Volvo V70.

The Detroit show car will apparently come with a 332kW 5-litre V8 engine.

Another IS derivative which will be unveiled is the IS500, which is to take aim at hot sports sedans such as the BMW M3 and Mercedes C55 AMG.

Lexus is also to showcase the production version of its new top-end LS sedan at Detroit.
