Volvo has released the first image of the concept of its next generation S60 sedan. It will be shown for the first time at January's Detroit Motor Show.

Okay, so the image is not exactly of the car, but rather of its innovative centre stack made entirely of crystal in an all-white cabin.
The floating centre stack of hand-made crystalis the handiwork of renowned Swedish glassworks Orrefors.
The centre stack flows all the way through the centre of the car from the instrument panel to the rear seat backrest. Appearing to float above the centre console, the stack rests on rubber pads.
"Invisible" light sources give the crystal a glow that can be changed to match the driver's mood.
In order to meet the relevant strength standards, the finished piece consists of three sections joined together at the Volvo Cars concept car workshops.
"The full-size crystal piece in the concept car will not be a production feature.
"However, it does open up opportunities to use crystal on a smaller scale in the future. We'll have to see how our customers respond," says Steve Mattin Volvo Cars design director.
