The production version of the C30 will be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in September 2006.
Volvo to unveil C30 Design Concept at Detroit Motor Show
Sales of the C30 will kick of in Europe in the third quarter and we expect the car to arrive in South Africa early 2007.
The C30 will compete against the top Golf models, Audi A3 and BMW 1 Series.
It will share its underpinning with the S40 and from our image it is clear that the C30 is to take its styling cues from Volvo's 2001 Safety Concept Car (SCC).
The car's nose design will resemble the S40 and V50 front end and at the rear there will be a large glass hatch with the words "Volvo" prominently displayed.
The large tail lights extend upwards on the C-pillar to the roof.
The C30's interior will be similar to that of the S40 too featuring the floating centre console and brush aluminium highlights.
There is no official indication yet of the C30's engine range but according to insiders it could be similar to that of the S40.
This means that a performance version is also on the cards featuring Volvo's 2.5-litre turbo engine, which is also used in the new Focus ST. It kicks out 162 kW while torque is a whopping 320 Nm. 241 km/h.
