Chevrolet will launch its new Cruze five-door hatchback with a show car version at the 2010 Paris auto show later this month - just one of four Chevrolet world premieres planned for the event.
The hatch gives a second body style to the range, launched in 2009 as a sedan.
Wayne Brannon, president and MD of Chevrolet Europe, said the potential to meet further customer demand was significant.
"The Cruze is turning out to be a real success story. We're selling it in 70 countries and it recently overtook the Aveo as our top-seller globally.
"Hatchbacks play a critical role in many markets. The total compact segment in Europe represents around 4.8-million - more than a quarter of the total market - with hatchbacks representing around 65% of that. We expect increased business in a number of regions, while sending out a signal that Chevrolet is now a serious player in Europe."

With its coupe roofline and short overhangs, the Cruze hatch scores the same stance as the sedan. It also has a boot capacity of close to 400 litres and the rear seats fold.
Chevrolet is racing a Cruze in the World Touring Car championship and, with only four races left of the 2010 season, it's leading the Drivers' and Team championships. Another Cruze is racing in the British Touring Car championship with Jason Plato leading the Drivers’ championship.
The Chevrolet Cruze hatch will go on sale across Europe mid-2011. GM SA could not forecast a date for its arrival in South Africa.
Wheels24 will be at the show to bring you the latest coverage.
