Volvo's new compact hatchback, the C30, is on display at the Auto Africa Motor Show.
The Volvo C30 is set to hit South Africa.
Volvo told Wheels24 that the C30, which will rival the BMW 1 Series and Audi A3, is due to go on sale here in March 2007.
The design of the production-ready C30 is in tune with the Volvo C30 concept, which was presented at the Detroit Motor Show at the beginning of the year.
The front retains its dynamic character, with the angled headlamps and the low, wide grille.
Prominent horseshoe-shaped taillights dominate the rear while another distinctive feature is the glass tailgate.
On the inside the C30 offers four individual seats and the rear seats are slightly centred to provide a feeling of space and a good forward view. The dashboard design is similar to that of the S40.
South African models will be available with the Swedish carmaker's 2.4-litre and T5 engines. The turbo-charged T5 engine kicks out 162kW.
According to Volvo SA, the C30's pricing will be 3% to 6% below that of the S40.
