Volkswagen Eos to arrive here in first quarter of 2007

Volkswagen has announced at the Auto Africa Motor Show that its Eos coupe cabriolet will arrive here in the first quarter of 2007.

The Eos comes with a five-section folding hard top which takes about 25 seconds from the first "clack" to the last "click".

The Eos, which will rival the Megane and 307 coupe-cabriolets, is 1.79m wide, 4.41m long and 1.44m high. When the roof is open, boot space is 205 litres; when closed, 380 litres of stowage space are on offer.

When the roof is down a roll-over protection safety system will shoot out within a maximum of 0.25 seconds in critical situations.

Under the bonnet is VW's usual array engines which reflects that of the Golf range.

South African models will feature a 110 kW 2.0 FSI engine - this model will retail for about R311 000.

Next in line is the turbo-charged 147 kW 2-litre FSI model, which will be available with 6-speed manual and DSG transmission. Pricing for the manual model is R350 000 and R364 000 for the DSG version.
