2006-10-27 09:44
Johannesburg - Tata said at the Auto Africa Motor Show that it is planning to produce vehicles in South Africa.

This announcement was made by the managing director of the Tata Group, Ravi Kant.

According to Kant, Tata has bought the old Nissan production facility at Rosslyn, Pretoria.

Tata hasn't given a timeframe of when production will kick off and said it is formalising a business plan at present.

Kant also reiterated that besides vehicles, other Tata products will be manufactured at the new plant too.

Tata is India's largest automobile company, and had revenues $5.5bn in 2005-06.

The company is also the world's fifth-largest medium and heavy commercial vehicle manufacturer.
