The new Mercedes-Benz Vito has arrived in South Africa.

Cape Town - The new Mercedes-Benz Vito has arrived in South Africa in three variants - panel van, Tourer and what the automaker calls a 'Mixto' (a combination of the two).

The Vito panel van is available with two different drive systems and with up to 1344kg of cargo capacity, it has the highest payload in its class claims Mercedes.

The Mixto, says the automaker, combines the advantages of a panel van with a people mover. The Tourer sees the automaker opening entirely new chapter in passenger transport models with two versions available locally - Vito Tourer PRO and the premium Vito Tourer Select.

The Vito is offered in both rear and front-wheel drive variations. The front-wheel drive Vito 111 CDI is powered by a transverse-mounted, four-cylinder 1.6 litre engine capable of 84kW.

The rear-wheel drive option uses a 2.2 litre four-cylinder tuned to three power output levels: the Vito 114 CDI (100kW); the Vito 116 CDI (120kW) and the Vito 119 BlueTEC (140kW).

A six-speed manual is offered as standard but the 7G-tronic plus auto with a torque converter is optional for the Vito 114 CDI and Vito 116 CDI and standard on the Vito 119 CDI. Merc says it is the world's only auto transmission with torque converter and seven gears.
