Limited SLK in SA

2009-07-06 07:43
Mercedes-Benz introduces a limited SLK model in South Africa, but its younger target market should best avoid looking at the price tag...

The new model, called the 2Look Edition, is available in black or white only.

This theme is carried through the cabin which is finished in two-toned black and white.

The interior sports nappa leather sports seats with white centres and black side bolsters, a multifunction steering wheel with a black nappa leather finishe and white decorative seam and a black dash with painted white inserts.

The 2 Look Edition is limited to 300 units worldwide, of which 40 will be making their way to South Africa.

The car's sportier aesthetic is conveyed via imposing 10-spoke 17-inch wheels (available in either a high-sheen titanium or a dark chrome finish) and black surrounds for the headlamp clusters.

Two models are offered in South Africa; the SLK 200 K and SLK 350 derivitives.

The four-cylinder SLK 200 produces 135 kW at 5 500 r/min and 250 Nm of torque from 2 800 to 5 000 r/min. The SLK 350 is powered by a 3.5-litre V6 engine that develops 224 kW at 6 500 r/min and 360 Nm at 4 900 r/min.

The 200 K comes standard with a five-speed manual transmission, while the 350 has a five-speed touchshift speedtronic with cruise control. This automatic gearbox is available for the 200 K as a R13 700-option.
