Following on the initial launch, the RX300 range is now expanded to two models with the addition of the Lexus RX300 XE, a model that adds further luxury features to the already superbly equipped RX300.
"Within the premium SUV sector there are buyers who desire comfort and convenience items that go beyond what is routinely classified as a luxury specification," says Dr Johan van Zyl, President and CEO of Toyota South Africa.
"To cater for this extension of the premium SUV market we have introduced the Lexus RX300 XE which boasts a number of additional features.
The additional specification items are:
These features add to an already impressive list of features that includes "Optitron" instrumentation, a premium audio system with RDS radio, multi-disc CD changer linked to satellite steering wheel controls and eight speakers, electrically adjusted front seats, a multi-function trip information display and leather seat facings.
Power operated side windows, side mirrors are also included as is air-conditioning for a full house luxury specification.
In keeping with the sporting presence of this Lexus SUV are mechanical credentials that include an rigid monocoque bodyshell, an all-independent MacPherson strut suspension, speed-sensitive rack and pinion steering and the latest generation ABS brakes with electronic brake force distribution (EBD) and brake assist (BAS).
South African buyers benefit from a European-specification ride and handling package to ensure enhanced steering and cornering characteristics, and a taut but supple ride.
The RX300 and the new XE derivative are powered by a proven aluminium block quad camshaft 3-litre V6 engine ? codenamed 1MZ-FE ? which features variable valve timing and induction (VVT-i) and multipoint fuel injection and electronic throttle control (ETCS-i).
This V6 develops 150kW at 5 600 r/min and torque is 283Nm at 4 500r/min. It has a five-speed electronically controlled ECT automatic transmission, with a manual sequential shift facility.
The Lexus' permanent four-wheel drive system is mated to electronic traction control (TRC) and vehicle stability control (VSC) to optimise grip even in low-traction conditions like ice or snow, or during emergency avoidance procedures.
Peace of mind motoring is assured by the RX300's unrivalled reputation for quality and reliability, supported by a three-year/100 000km warranty. A five-year/90 000km service plan is included in the purchase price of the Lexus RX300 XE as is the case with the RX300.
