The car is aggressively styled, with a unique air intake, a new mid-sized, body-coloured radiator grille, massive bumper, oversized headlights and built-in fog lamps.

The rear styling of the four-door sedan sees a boot edge spoiler and clear-lensed rear combination lamps.

The Cerato five door has aggressively-flared wheel arches and robust C- and D-pillars. Both models have a long wheelbase.

There are wrap-around rear combination lamps, a rear wiper and washer, high mounted stop lamp and roof mounted aerial.

Inside the Cerato has adopted the pulmaflex seatback structure to minimise driver fatigue. The seatback supports essential areas according to the drivers weight distribution and there's a lever mechanism to adjust seat height.

Cargo space

With the back seats double-folded cargo space is a massive 1 494 litres.

The four door Cerato sedan is available with a 1.6-litre DOHC petrol engine plus a 2.0-litre CRDi diesel engine, while hatch owners only get the petrol motor.

The 1.6-litre DOHC petrol engine has a maximum power output of 78 kW at 5 800 r/min, with 146 Nm of torque peaking at 4 000 r/min.

The turbo-diesel unit design delivers an impressive 250 Nm of torque at 2 000 r/min. It produces 83 kW at 4 000 r/min.

Standard features on all models include air-conditioner, ABS, central locking, Dual airbags, electric windows, electric driver's seat, keyless remote entry, and power-steering.

Suspension see MacPherson struts with an anti-roll bar in front, and a dual link design in the rear.

ABS brakes

The Cerato has a 4-channel 4-sensor ABS system with Electronic Brake Force Distribution. There is also Brake Assist.

There are dual front airbags, seat belt pre-tensioner and a load limiter. The Active headrest automatically moves forward in the event of a rear collision.

There's an auto head-light system.

The keyless entry system also has a built in panic button which will trigger the car alarm. All four doors can also be locked from the inside with one switch.

The Cerato has a 3-year/100 000km warranty and 3-year unlimited mileage Roadside Assistance.

Service intervals are 15 000 km and a 3 year / 60 000 km maintenance plan is standard.
