Infiniti Q70 supersedan 'enhanced' for '15

ROLLE, Switzerland – Just recently launched in North America and due to make its European debut at the 2014 Paris auto show is the much upgraded edition of the Infiniti Q70 premium saloon.

The current model is available in South Africa, the updated version, Infiniti SA told us, can be expected here in mid-2015.

On the exterior, aesthetic changes bring the look closer to that of the all-new Q50 mid-size premium saloon. Front and rear bumpers are "more chiselled' in appearance, headlights maintain the “Infiniti eye” using light-emitting diodes now as standard equipment.

Tail-lights are also more with LED's and both the standard and Sport grilles have been brought in line with those of the Q50.

SUSPENSION AMENDED

Passenger comfort and noise isolation has been further improved through the modification of several points around the body and chassis; wind, tyre, and mechanical noise entering the cabin has, the automaker says, been significantly reduced.

The car's whole suspension system has been amended with a new seal design between the sliding tubes to minimise, in particular, initial impact shock over road imperfections. Standard spec for wheel size has been reset to 18".

Now available for Europe is an efficient and clean 2.2 turbodiesel four-cylinder capable of 124kW and 400Nm of torque, the latter fully on tap from 1600 to 2800rpm with minimum turbolag.

The Q70 Hybrid model has also, the automaker says, been improved with reduced mechanical friction in the 3.5 V6 petrol engine and new computer software managing the whole powertrain made possible a slightly increased battery-along rang and a “sailing” function at freeway cruise speeds which can decouple the engine.

SUPERCAR, SUPERCAMERA

Also now available on all markets is a 360-degree external camera monitor/sensors system for urban driving and tight parking. The front perspective, Infiniti says, can switch on the on-board screen between a 150-degree wide view and a complete 180-degree wide view to see pedestrians, children, animals and other cars.

But wait, there's more... "The Q70 now also features a greatly enhanced connectivity interface for any current smartphone, as well as additional 12V sockets placed strategically about the cabin and cargo area, plus added small stowage spots for these personal devices.

"Another enhancement is improved HVAC logic for the aircon that syncs with the stop/start function on the 2.2 turbodiesel Q70 for Europe, allowing cabin comfort to be maintained as necessary even when the engine is stopped.

Deliveries of the new Infiniti Q70 will start in Europe in December 2014. Prices have yet to be calculated.
