Hyundai shows off next Santa Fe

KEEPING IT IN THE FAMILY: Hyundai, ahead of the 2012 New York auto show, has released this image of its coming Santa Fe SUV. Certainly has the family face...

Hyundai has released exterior teaser shots of its all-new Santa Fe which will have its world premiere at the 2012 New York auto show in early April.

The name Santa Fe will continue to be used, extending the solid brand heritage of the big SUV into a third generation which has celebrated worldwide sales of about 2.56-million - all but about 680 000 of them exported since the car's 2000 debut.

The new version has adopted Hyundai's now almost mantratic 'Fluidic Sculpture' in a design called Storm Edge which, Hyundai says, captures the strong and dynamic images created by nature during the creation of a storm. The automaker says the car "has sophisticated and refined lines in harmony with bold and voluminous surfaces, completing a more classic look than its predecessor".

The design has adopted the hexagonal grille – a key cue of the current Hyundai family look – a two-tone shell and wider front and rear bumpers, creating a futuristic and urban-style SUV image.

Dynamic side character lines give a more aerodynamic feeling, while emotional details expressed on the exterior design deliver a premium image, suggesting a new design direction for Hyundai’s next-generation SUV's.

Interested? OK, well start saving because the next Santa Fe will be in South Africa early in 2013.
