Honda took the covers off its Civic Tourer Concept at the 2013 Geneva auto show with strong hints of the exterior design of the production model which will make its debut at the Frankfurt show in September.
The automaker has also confirmed that track testing of the new Civic Type R will start at the Nurburgring in 2013.
DYNAMIC LOOK
The concept shares many of the features of the ninth generation Civic hatchback launched in late 2011. It has, the automaker claims, a sophisticated, aerodynamic body that creates a clean, dynamic look.
The car has a low and wide stance giving it a sporty appearance which is complemented by a sleek cabin style also found on the hatchback.
It continues the same design direction as previous Honda Tourer derivatives such as the Accord Tourer and Civic Aero deck which sought to offer smooth design combined with practical and class-leading cargo space.
The production version of the car will be in showrooms in early 2014 and will be built alongside the hatchback model in Honda’s plant in Swindon, England
Honda confirmed in 2012 the introduction of an all-new Civic Type R for Europe and said development, with the application of technology from the brand's World Touring Car championship Civic, was "progressing well".
Honda has now announced that testing at the Nurburgring will begin during 2013.
The Type R model will also be assembled in Swindon. We have not managed to identify a possible launch date for the cars.
