JOHANNESBURG, South Africa - Toyota's upgraded Yaris will embark on a new era when it is released in South Africa later in 2014.

New images of the Yaris have been released in May 2014 and it shows a car which will deliver “greater emotional appeal” by sporting the automaker’s signature front-end design.

The new Yaris embraces Toyota's contemporary design language, says the automaker, with a full-width upper grille that extends into new triangular headlights.

Toyota says its new front gives the car a more contemporary "family look" and more in-line with its Auris, Corolla and the new Aygo (not due in SA before 2015).

It also incorporates a deeper front bumper with a large trapezoidal lower intake, which are key elements of Toyota's design theme that are being introduced progressively across the range.

The upgrade also adds revised rear styling including new rear lights as well as a raft of under-the-skin and interior mods – details to be released closer to the launch.

The range of engines is unchanged, with a 1.0- and 1.33-litre petrol as well as Toyota’s flagship full hybrid system on offer.

According to Toyota, its new Yaris will arrive in South Africa during the last quarter of 2014. Details and pricing is yet to be confirmed for Europe and more information for the SA market will be available closer to its launch.
