Lexus updates its luxury RX SUV with a makeover in 2012 adding updates, interior improvements and an F-Sport hybrid model. The exterior includes a more elegant and aggressive frontal design with the Lexus-trademark "spindle" grille.
Following in the footsteps of the new GS, the South African model range has been revised to include an F-Sport hybrid.
The line-up of three new RX models include: RX 350, RX 450h and F-Sport.
F-SPORT HYBRID
The RX 350 is powered by a 3.5-litre petrol V6 capable of 204 kW/346 Nm. The hybrid RX 450h mates a 183 kW/317 Nm 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine with a 116 kW electric motor and sealed nickel metal hydride (Ni-MH) battery pack.
The RX 450h F-Sport has an identical powertrain to the standard 450h but adds style changes and performance enhancements.
The new grille is flanked by revised headlights which include daytime running lights, a new bumper and fog light design, and tweak tail-lights.
The hybrid F-Sport has similar specifications to the RX 450h but adds a sporty body kit, unique steering wheel design, shift lever, alloy pedals and decals.
The RX 350 runs on 18-inch rims with 235/60 tyres, while the two hybrid models have 235/55 tyres on 19" alloys.
The RX 450h F-Sport benefits from a lateral performance damper system designed to absorb and minimise undesirable body vibrations, offering a more linear steering feel and contributing to improved ride comfort.
