Golf minivan tees off at Frankfurt

Volkswagen will showcase the latest addition to its Golf family at the 2013 Frankfurt International Motor Show. Check out the new Golf Sportsvan!

Volkswagen’s latest addition to its Golf family, the Golf Spostvan, will make its debut at the 2013 Frankfurt International Motor Show. The compact minivan will be launched globally in 2014.

The Golf Sportsvan will have six engines with a power range from 63kW to 110kW. The engines have stop-start as standard and according VW are “19% more fuel efficient than the previous engine versions.”

One of the engines powering the Sportsvan will be the 80kW 1.6 TDI BlueMotion. It has a claimed fuel consumption of 3.7 litres/100km and emissions of 95 g CO2/km.

LATEST SAFETY TECH

The new model rear bench seat has 180mm fore-aft adjustment and over 1500 litres of cargo capacity and “advanced assistance systems.”

Standard kit includes automatic post-collision braking system, air-con, seven airbags, electronic parking brake, a 12.7cm touch screen, variable cargo floor and a cargo cover.

The model sports a Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) incorporating rear traffic alert, a first for a Golf model.

BSM warns of vehicles in the blind spot. When reversing out of a parking space, the system also recognises cross-traffic approaching from behind the car warns the driver in case of a hazard.

If a collision is imminent, the system automatically activates an emergency braking function.

Other available technologies include dynamic chassis control, front assist with city emergency braking surroundings monitoring system, adaptive cruise control and a lane-keeping assistant.
