AMSTERDAM, Netherlands – Ford has revealed its next-generation Fiesta sporting a new design and more technology.
The first Fiestas hit world markets in 1976 and the cars rapidly became a huge success for Ford with 15-million sold globally. Thiis latest version carries design cues inspired by the automaker's new design language and concept vehicles.
The automaker says the cars have a host of new technologies, among them a voice-activated connectivity system (Ford SYNC), active city stop and the brand's MyKey system. The new model will be equipped with a 1.0 EcoBoost petrol engine.
The front sports a new trapezoidal grille, headlights with daytime running lights and a power-dome bonnet.

Martin Smith, Ford Europe's executive design director, said: “The Fiesta has been one of the world’s best-loved small cars through five decades and the sporty appeal of the last generation Fiesta inspired real passion among global small-car customers, contributing to its status as the world’s most successful small car.
“We had to keep that vital part of Fiesta’s make-up – but we also wanted to give it a more sophisticated look.”
Ford says the new model will have "democratising technology" by bringing premium features once reserved for higher-end models (read-expensive) to a larger pool of drivers.
The active city stop is a system designed to help drivers avoid traffic shunts.

Ford's SYNC system enables owners to voice-activate phone calls and music selection from devices connected via Bluetooth or USB. SYNC includes "emergency assistance", which connects drivers to emergency services operators after a crash.
The new Fiesta sees the European debut of MyKey, which will enable parents to encourage safer driving and limit their teenager’s exposure to risk at the wheel. The system allows owners to set maximum speed and audio volume limits.
It also mutes audio until seat belts are fastened and ensures driver aids, safety systems and alerts cannot be deactivated when used.
The new model will be shown in Amsterdam at the automaker's “Go Further” product launch. Ford will reveal more details about the new European Fiesta range at the Paris auto show in September.
