PRETORIA - Ford’s current generation Fiesta has been around in South Africa since 2008 and has continued to be a popular model for the US automaker.
In 2013, Ford spruces up its popular hatchback/sedan with more assertive styling, new features and the SA introduction of its 2012 International Engine of the Year - the 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine.
HEAD-TURNING STYLE
At the front, you can spot a redesigned trapezoidal front grille and LEDs with daytime running lights.
Ford marketing manager Gavin Golightly said: “Customers want cars that are expressive and fun to drive without breaking the bank.
“Fiesta delivers all the excitement and performance drivers are looking for with the added bonus of exceptional fuel efficiency.”
There are three engine derivatives (1.0 EcoBoost, 1.4 petrol and 1.6 diesel) and three specification grades. A selection of “Option Packs” are also available

The range topping Titanium models are equipped with keyless entry, power start button, auto head lights, auto dimming rearview mirror, rain sensing wipers, auto folding side mirrors and cruise control.
EUROPEAN ENGINE OF THE YEAR
The 1.0 EcoBoost engine is capable of 92kW/170Nm and has a CO2 emission figure of 99g/km and according to Ford has a fuel consumption of 4.3 litres/100km (combined cycle).
The EcoBoost is fundamental to Ford’s strategy to provide technologically advanced, high-output, smaller-displacement engines. Ford reports that its EcoBoost engines deliver fuel economy gains of up to 20% and reduction of CO2 emissions of up to 15%, compared with larger, less-efficient engines.
Ford will also introduce auto start-stop for its EcoBoost- equipped models.
The automaker will continue its line-up of 1.4 petrol and 1.6 TDCi engines. The 1.4 powerplant is capable of 71kW/125Nm with a claimed fuel consumption of 5.7 litres/100km. The 1.6 diesel produces 70kW/200Nm while using only 3.6 litres/100km and emitting 95g/km of CO2.
MYKEY, SYNC NOW IN FIESTA RANGE
Ford Sync, introduced on Focus models, will be available in the new Fiesta range. The system allows drivers to use digital media players and Bluetooth enabled phones to operate the vehicle’s multimedia system. The system can be operated via voice commands and steering wheel mounted controls.
Golightly said: “This car was built for the digital generation. With Bluetooth connectivity and MP3 capabilities, tech-savvy people who use social media to be constantly connected with the world around them won’t be slowed down when they get in this car.
The 2013 Fiesta sees the introduction of Ford’s MyKey feature, which enables parents to encourage safer driving and limit their children’s exposure to risk at the wheel.
The system allows owners to configure maximum speed and audio volume limits. It also mutes the audio until seat belts are fastened and ensures driver aids and safety systems cannot be deactivated when used.
The new model will be available in 12 colours, including copper, magenta and blue.
Inside, Ford has relocated the power window switches and interior door handles. The interior has a higher quality finish with premium materials. The interior boast more stowage sports including a new central arm-rest and larger door pockets.
