Fiat has announced the introduction in Europe of two new high-performance Fiat Abarth 595 models and an update to the Abarth 500 that could be in South Africa by early 2013.
Two new versions of the sporty Abarth hatchback and convertible have been revealed – the 595 Turismo and the 595 Competizione – powered by a 119kW version of the automaker’s turbocharged 1.4 T-Jet engine.
PERHAPS IN 2013
The standard Abarth 500 is said to remain as an entrY model, although a few additions to the standard equipment specification sheet are being mooted.
All three versions, Fiat said, would be available with a manual transmission or with the Abarth’s semi-auto gearbox.
Fiat SA told Wheels24: "We are looking at these new models for our market but the new range has not been finalised. Production for us, however, would only start in the last quarter of 2012 so we would only be able to launch the new models early in 2013.”
