STYLE COLLABORATION: Fiat and Diesel have produced another trendy little 500 offshoot. More limited edition models are planned for South Africa.
It’s happened again. Fiat and urban label Diesel have turned out what they reckon is the must-have automotive accessory for 2011 – the Fiat 500 by Diesel.
The 500’s retro looks and its multitude of customisation options apparently make this the perfect candidate for a style makeover from the fashion label.
SPECIAL FEATURES
Both the hatchback and cabriolet are offered in two special metallic paint finishes – Diesel Green and Blue Midnight Indigo. The 500 by Diesel models are based on 500s with Sport trim.
Special features include 16" alloys sporting the Diesel logo, darker-tinted rear glass, metal finishes on the front and rear bumper inserts, door mirrors, door releases, special door mirror fairings, front fog lamps and rear parking sensors.
DETAILED
Inside, Fiat’s Blue&Me media interface is standard along with a high-end audio system, special upholstery by Diesel in denim with yellow stitching including a useful pouch, much like the fifth pocket on Diesel jeans on the side of the front seats, special yellow instrument panel inserts, a gear knob with the Diesel logo and door sill-plates bearing the slogan “For successful living”.
Hatchback models have a glass roof with a blind to keep the harsh South African sun out, while other features standard on the Sport models include climate control plus a full range of active and passive safety systems.
Mechanically, the 500 by Diesel is identical to the rest of the Cinquecento range. It uses a 74kW/131Nm 1.4-litre engine mated to a six-speed manual gearbox.
Services are at required at 30 000km intervals. The 500 by Diesel is sold with a three-year or 100 000km warranty and a five-year or 90 000km service plan.
