Drop-top Chrysler Sebring here

accreditation
Chrysler's Sebring has blown its top! The breezy convertible model joins a growing band of coupe-convertibles in South Africa.

Built on Chrysler's new D-segment platform, the drop also debus another first for the manufacturer - a three-piece retractable hard top roof.

This creates a sleek, profile-like appearance when the roof is raised and is said to offer comfortable seating for up to four occupants.

Designed to resemble its sedan sibling, the convertible bears the signature Chrysler front with the winged badging and large wraparound headlamps. The convertible is offered in a host of trendy colours, too.

Its interior has a two-toned theme with the upmarket cream and beige combination sporting leather seats and chrome and tortoise shell trim.

The cabin is said to also contain a top mix of comfort and convenience features, including a spacious boot with remote convertible operation via the key fob, seatbelts integrated into the front and rear seats, easy entry for rear passengers with a slide and memory function for the front passenger seat, a lockable glovebox and a heated and cooled cupholder.

MyGig

Innovative new features include the MyGig multimedia infotainment system linked to a 6.5-inch display with a touch-screen panel that displays up to 65 000 colours and provides 3D graphics and animation.

The system has a 20Gb hard drive and a USB port that allows for MP3 use and downloading of files to the drive. It responds to voice commands and is available with the optional navigation system, too.

Locally, the convertible will be available as one model only.

V6 power only

A 2.7-litre V6 engine is mated with a new six-speed automatic transmission with 137 kW and 256 Nm on tap.

It assures fuel consumption of about 10.9 l/100 km in urban conditions and 8.4 l/100 km on the open road.

An "extremely rigid body structure" is said to provide a quiet and comfortable ride, even with the top down.

On the safety front, front and side airbags are supplemented by ABS and ESP.

The Chrysler Sebring Convertible Limited costs R299 900. Optional extras include the MyGIG navigation upgrade (R14 900) and metallic paint (R1 200). All Chrysler group products come standard with a three-year / 100 000 km warranty and maintenance plan.
