Dodge has launched its versatile Dodge Journey crossover as a new model with new features and suggested South African prices starting at R320 990.
The automaker says this makes it one of the most affordable large crossovers in South Africa.
Trent Barcroft, CEO and MD, said: “The Journey has proved its popularity. We have great expectations that the new engine and interiors will consolidate its appeal as a great sporty American crossover MPV.”
NEW CONNECTIVITY
The car, Dodge says, is all new for 2012. There’s a redesigned and re-tuned suspension, a new V6 engine capable of 206kW and 353Nm, a high quality new interior with premium, soft-touch materials throughout, and an enhanced exterior design.
The Journey also has a new level of vehicle connectivity and customisation with the (optional) Chrysler Group’s Uconnect Touch 8.4 radio – the 8.4 being the inch size of the touchscreen – and keyless entry and engine ignition.
The cabin has lots of storage space, fold-flat seats, second-row in-floor storage and front passenger in-seat storage.
Chrysler’s Guy Franken explained: “The Dodge Journey is the ‘Swiss army knife’ of vehicles - essential, versatile, sharp and always useful. It’s part family car and part-MPV with seven seats, versatility, power and value.”
A 3.6-litre V6 Pentastar engine is installed in both models but only a six-speed auto gearbox is available.
The second and third rows of seats fold flat to create nearly two cubic metres of load volume. Row two reclines and has boosters for children as well as storage bins for anything from muddy clothes to soda cans – also handy for hiding valuable stuff such as a camera or laptop.

Also standard are power/heatable external mirrors, tri-zone aircon, illuminated cupholders and steering-wheel audio controls. The touchscreen “command centre” is an option.
On-the-move and sudden-stop people protection involves more than 40 safety and security features, among them multi-stage front air bags, active head restraints, traction control, electronic roll mitigation, driver’s knee blocker air bag, curtain bags covering all three rows, front seat side bags, anti-lock disc brakes, child-seat anchors and sway control should you wish to haul a trailer.
The 2012 Dodge Journey models are now available in Chrysler Jeep Dodge showrooms across South Africa.
