• Versatile 5+2 seating
• Equipped with Terrain ResponseCAPE TOWN - In March 2015, Land Rover will expand its Discovery family with the introduction of its new Discovery Sport.
According to the automaker: "Newcomers to the Land Rover brand will be able to get their hands on a vehicle that has all the qualities of the tried-and-tested original but in a more compact package and at a more affordable price."
Land Rover’s plan is to have a Discovery family, just as there is a Range Rover family, of "versatile, sophisticated and confidently capable all-terrain vehicles".
TURBODIESEL POWER
The Discovery Sport has, the automaker claims, a first-in-class pedestrian airbag, autonomous emergency braking and a new body made of high-strength steel and lightweight aluminium. The new SUV is powered by a 140kW 2.2 SD4 turbodiesel engine driving through either a nine-speed auto or six-speed manual. A two-wheel drive version, also with a turbodiesel engine, will arrive later in 2015.
PREMIUM INTERIOR
Gerry McGovern, Land Rover's design director and chief creative officer, said: "The cabin has high-quality materials, a new 20cm touchscreen infotainment system and standard tilt-and-slide row-two seating. Storage solutions abound and it can be specified with four 12V power points and six USB sockets."

Its premium interior is generous, Land Rover claims, in terms of load space and seating flexibility. In a first for the automaker, the Discovery Sport has a sliding second row of seats and is also available with 5+2 seating.
As with the current-generation Discovery, terrain response will be a standard combined with an advanced new rear suspension.
The Land Rover DNA is also evident in its compact footprint and short overhangs, meaning no compromise on agility and responsiveness.
