Diesel power for Citroen C2

accreditation
The 1.4 litre 8-valve powerplant in the Citroën C2 HDi boasts the latest generation common-rail direct injection diesel system.

This second generation common rail engine has 150 Nm of torque available at only 1 750 r/min, while maximum power of 50 kW is developed at 4 000 r/min.

According to Citroen it consumes 3.52 litres per 100 km in the rural cycle and 5.01 litres in the urban cycle. Giving a combined cycle of city and rural driving of just 4.3 litres per 100 km.

The top speed is rated at 165 km/h and the diesel C2 will sprint to 100 km/h in 13.5 seconds.

It also comes with a freshened up dashboard which includes a new instrument cluster and brushed aluminium bezels around the air vents.

The C2 boasts a range of comfort features such as a speed limiter and instrument cluster display of selected mode and speed, power steering with a height-and-reach adjustable steering wheel with remote radio controls as standard, air conditioner and a CD player.

In terms of safety features there are four front and side airbags, ABS, emergency braking assistance (EBA), electronic brake-force distribution (EBD) and hazard warning lights activated automatically by strong braking.

It's price tag is R134 995 and maintenance is limited to every 20 000 km, while air filter changes every 60 000 km. The timing belt only needs replacement at 230 000 km.

All new Citroëns are covered by a three year or 100 000 km factory warranty.

There is a warranty of three years on the paintwork, as well as a 12-year anti-corrosion warranty.

A comprehensive road assistance package is standard on all Citroens and for those customers who prefer peace-of-mind maintenance costs, a 2-year/60 000 km service plan is available as an option.
