Diesel-electric Pug unveiled

Peugeot is about to tackle the green-friendly SUV market with its 508 RXH diesel-electric hybrid, an SUV/estate crossover driven by the French brand's HYbrid4 drive.

The 508 RXH is unique in its design among Peugeots and is both higher and wider than the 508 wagon.

Design-wise, it's similar to BMW’s X1, but with many styling differences to set it apart. At the front are LED lights in a striking vertical three-line designnext to a new grille.

ELECTRIC DRIVE, TOO

Powering the new model will be a two-litre HDi HYbrid4 drive train to be launched first in the 3008 HYbrid4. It's capable of 149kW and 450Nm.

The 508 RXH also has an electric drive ideal for city driving and promises a potential combined fuel consumption rating of 4.2 litres/100km andh CO2 emissions of 109g/km.

ALL-WHEEL DRIVE: The new 508 RXH sports a full electric mode as well as all-wheel drive.

As far as creature comforts go, the 508 RXH has plenty of kit as standard; keyless entry and start, power front seats, a windscreen info display, 18" rims, glass roof, tinted side glass and satnav.

After the launch of the 3008 HYbrid4 later in 2011, Peugeot will extend its HYbrid4 technology to other existing models.

The 508 RXH will be unveiled at the 2011 Frankfurt international auto show and will go on sale globally early in 2012.
