Diesel dawn for Kia family trooper

OUT WITH THE OLD: The introduction of a new turbodiesel engine for Kia's Sedona also signals the addition of a few new convenience features.

The Kia Sedona seven-seater MPV now comes with a sparkly new 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine.

Replacing the previous 2.9-litre turbodiesel, the new common-rail engine produces 143kW at 3800rpm and a peak torque figure of 436Nm from 1800 – 2500rpm.

The engine is mated to a new six-speed automatic transmission with a Powertrain Control Unit that, Kia says, makes for smoother gear shifts.

NEW GADGETS

Other than its new engine, Sedona is equipped with Bluetooth (controlled via satellite steering controls) and a new six-CD audio system with MP3 and USB ports.

Another useful new feature is the Sedona’s power tailgate that can be operated either via a button in the tailgate or the vehicle’s remote locking device.

At R419 995, the 2.2 Sedona is more dear than the 2.9-litre model it replaces, but to sweeten the deal, Kia’s throwing in a free Jurgens trailer and towbar to the value of R13 000.

The Sedona comes with a five-year or 100 000km warranty plus a maintenance plan over the same period.
